Suzanne De Courville Nicol

Suzanne De Courville Nicol is a passionate author, educator, and cultural advocate dedicated to promoting bilingualism and celebrating French heritage. Born in Quebec City and raised in Ottawa, Suzanne has spent much of her life contributing to the advancement of Francophone communities in Canada and beyond. She has worked as a journalist and political commentator, writing for respected publications such as Le Droit, La Presse, Le Franco, and L’Express.

Suzanne made history as the first Francophone woman in Alberta to run for mayor of Calgary and was later appointed to the Ottawa Board of Education. She has traveled extensively across North America, Europe, and Australia, delivering lectures on topics ranging from French Canadian identity to education and global citizenship.

Writing under the pen name Suzanne Sawyer between 1973 and 2010, she authored numerous articles and books that reflect her deep commitment to language, literacy, and youth empowerment. Today, she continues that mission through children’s literature, using stories like The New Adventures of Frannie the Frisky Frog to inspire curiosity, celebrate culture, and encourage learning.
